ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level
Target group:
The Advanced Level is suitable for people who want to deepen the knowledge from the Foundation Level and achieve a higher award in the field of software testing. It consists of three modules in different areas.
Skills:
Test Manager: You will learn skills in test management, defect and deviation management, test improvement processes, and test tools.
Test Analyst: You will be proficient in test processes, able to select and apply the correct procedure, master functional testing techniques, black box testing and reviews.
Technical Test Analyst: You have mastered the test processes, especially the specification-based and structure-based test procedures. You can perform a static or dynamic analysis, assess test or software properties and correctly select and evaluate test tools.
After passing the three modules, an overall certificate is issued.

ISTQB Expert Level
Target group:
The ISTQB Expert Level is aimed at professional software testers with a lot of experience. Two curricula or modules are currently available at the Expert Level:
- ISTQB Certified Tester Expert Level Test Management:
- Part 1: Strategic Test Management
- Part 2: Operational Test Management
- Part 3: Manage a test team
- ISTQB Certified Tester Expert Level Improving the Test Process:
- Part 1: Assessment of test processes
- Part 2: Implementation of test process improvements
Requirements:
The admission requirement for taking the exam are:
- ISTQB Foundation Level certificate
- ISTQB Advanced Level certificate (varies depending on Expert Level module)
- At least 5 years of practical testing experience
- At least 2 years of professional experience in the respective area of the expert level
Exam information:
The expert level exams consist of two parts:
- Part 1: multiple choice
- 20 questions
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Part 2: Essay
- Time for preparation: 30 minutes
- Response time: 120 minutes
Validity of the certificate:
The certificate is valid for 5 years. After this time you can renew your certificate by taking the exam again or by achieving 200 “Certification Extension Credits” (CEC).
