The IREB portfolio currently consists of 7 modules, which are spread over three levels: Foundation, Advanced and Expert.

CPRE Foundation Level

Target group:

People from the field of requirements engineering, business analysis or software and system development.

Skills:

With the CPRE Foundation Level you can collect, document, verify and validate requirements. This certificate covers the basics of requirements engineering.

Preparation:

It is recommended that the exam material be acquired with the help of a training provider. Self-study is also a possibility to learn the material.

Requirements:

There are no admission requirements for the CPRE Foundation Level.

Exam information:

Structure: The exam consists of 45 multiple-choice questions. The topics covered in the exam can be found in the syllabus.

Duration: 75 min. + 15 min. for non-native speakers. You can find the time bonus form here.

CPRE Advanced Level

Target group:

The Advanced Level ist intended for people with the Foundation Level certificate who want to deepen their knowledge in the field of requirements engineering or business analysis.

Modules and skills:

Requirements Elicitation: The techniques acquired at Foundation Level are deepened and further techniques are learned so that requirements elicitation can be designed more efficiently.

Requirements Modeling: Correct use of graphical models to represent functional requirements correctly.

Requirements Management: Methods and techniques are used to effectively manage requirements throughout product development.

RE@Agile: Methods and techniques of RE can be profitably introduced and applied in agile development processes.

Preparation:

It is recommended that the exam material be acquired with the help of a training provider. Self-study is also a possibility to learn the material. There are syllabuses, handbooks and exams for all Advanced Level Modules in German and English.

Requirements:

Admission to the CPRE Advanced Level exam requires one of the following certificates: IREB CPRE Foundation Level or REQB CPRE Foundation Level or Requirements Engineering of the British Computer Society (BCS).

Exam information:

Structure: The exam consists of a written examination (part 1) and an homework (part 2). The written examination consists of 45 multiple-choice questions. The topics covered in the exam can be found in the syllabus.

Duration:

Written test (part 1): 75 minutes + 15 minutes for non-native speakers. You can find the time bonus form here.

Homework (part 2): Submission within a period of 12 months from participation in the written examination.

CPRE Expert Level

Target group:

The Expert Level Certificate is for people who habe mastered requirements engineering at the highest level and have acquired the knowledge and experience in this field in a long and individual process.

Skills:

The CPRE Expert Level serves as an award for top know-how in requirements engineering. It is the highest certificate that can be acquired in this field.

Requirements:

  • The candidate must habe at least 3 CPRE Advanced Level certificates (up to two certificates can be replaced through university lectures on RE, certain certificates of another RE-relevant education or a comprehensive publication.
  • Full-time employment of at least 3 years as requirements engineer in various functions and projects
  • Activity as a trainer or coach in the field of requirements engineering

Exam information:

The scope and procedure of the examination is defined by the CPRE Expert Level examination regulations. It consists of the following parts:

Part 1: Written application

Part 2: Homework

Part 3: Oral examination

RE@Agile

There are the following certificates for the topic Agile:

  • RE@Agile Primer (see below)
  • Advanced Level RE@Agile (see CPRE Advanced Level)

 

Target group:

The training is suitable for people who are interested in the interaction of requirements engineering and agility.

Skills:

The RE@Agile Primer certificate is an independent, internationally recognized certification. The training teaches methods and techniques how requirements engineering can be integrated into agile development processes and how RE practice can be improved.

Preparation:

It is recommended that the exam material be acquired with the help of a training provider. Self-study is also a possibility to learn the material.

Requirements:

There are no admission requirements for the RE@Agile Primer.

Exam information:

Structure: The exam consists of 22 multiple-choice questions. The topics covered in the exam can be found in the syllabus.

Duration: 40 minutes + 10 minutes for non-native speakers. You can find the time bonus form here.

Further information:

RE@Agile Primer is not a prerequisite for the RE@Agile Advanced Level certificate.
